Sui Basecamp 2025 Goes Fullstack

This year's Sui Basecamp in Dubai emphasized how the integration of Sui with Walrus, DeepBook, Seal, and SCION rebuilds the Internet.

Sui Basecamp 2025 Goes Fullstack
"We're not just trying to build an L1, we're trying to rebuild the Internet." - Adeniyi Abiodun, Mysten Labs Chief Product Officer

This year’s Sui Basecamp in Dubai brought together builders, partners, and thought leaders across Web3 for a two-day showcase of what’s next, not just for Sui, but for the decentralized Internet as a whole. A consistent theme throughout the event was the emergence of the Sui stack: an integrated decentralized infrastructure comprising compute, storage, privacy, identity, and liquidity working in concert to support a new generation of truly decentralized applications.

Christian Thompson, Managing Director of the Sui Foundation, delivers the opening keynote for Sui Basecamp 2025.

Basecamp kicked off with opening remarks from Christian Thompson, Managing Director of the Sui Foundation, who emphasized that this wasn’t just a conference, but a catalyst. Since the last Sui Basecamp, foundational components like DeepBook, Walrus, and Seal have launched—and this year’s gathering also coincided with Sui’s second mainnet anniversary, giving the community another reason to celebrate.

Decentralize the whole stack

The opening main stage talks laid out the big picture: Sui isn’t just a blockchain—it’s part of a decentralized stack designed to replace the walled gardens and data silos of the past. On the main stage, Mysten Labs Chief Product Officer Adeniyi Abiodun reflected on Sui’s rapid evolution and how it’s not just supporting apps, but enabling entirely new coordination primitives for the Internet. At the same time, Mysten Labs Chief Technology Officer Sam Blackshear gave developers a deep dive into how that stack takes shape under the hood: radical interoperability through the Move Registry, programmable transactions (PTBs), and data-layer synergy with Seal and Walrus.

The technical sessions that followed zoomed in on how interoperability within the Sui stack manifests across code, applications, and infrastructure. Talks explored how Walrus functions as a decentralized storage layer, emphasizing its architecture, performance, and role within the stack. Other sessions covered IKA and its approach to decentralized MPC coordination, enabling secure collaboration across parties and domains. Attendees also got a look at how Sui plans to leverage SCION, a coordination protocol designed to enhance validator efficiency, as well as how initiatives like Karrier One are paving the way for real-world DePIN applications on Sui.

DeFi, BTCfi, and the financial stack

One of the most energetic tracks came from the evolving landscape of DeFi, Bitcoin finance (BTCfi), and institutional finance on Sui. Speakers from Interest, Bluefin, and Aftermath revealed how they’re using innovations like Walrus-powered LSTs and novel smart contract architectures to push boundaries. Their talks highlighted not only what’s being built, but why Sui’s architecture uniquely enables these leaps forward.

The Sui community gathered from all over the world to learn, network, and offer their own expertise on the ecosystem's many facets and potential.

That thread continued with sessions from Backpack, Phantom, Suilend, and Fireblocks, where each team offered insight into why they’re betting on Sui to power the next era of finance. The president of 21Shares also joined the conversation to announce ongoing efforts toward a Sui-native ETF and outlined how regulated access to onchain assets could open new doors for wider participation. Babylon and Lombard capped off the track with a compelling look at Bitcoin’s evolving role in DeFi and why BTCfi is gathering momentum on Sui.

Interactivity, AI, and what’s next

Day two spotlighted Sui’s role in enabling experiences that go beyond traditional blockchain apps. Attendees got their first live demo of the SuiPlay0X1 device, drawing a crowd around the expo booth to test-drive onchain gaming in hardware form. That momentum continued when Claynosaurz took the stage to share how they’re using Sui to bring interactive media to life in ways that aren't possible on other chains.

Sui Basecamp attendees get the first hands-on experience with SuiPlay0X1, the first mobile gaming device for Web3.

Another key thread was Sui’s growing capacity to support AI-native and computation-heavy applications. From Aeon’s and Atoma Network’s AI agents to Nautilus’s work on verifiable offchain computation, it highlighted how Sui could serve as a foundation for the next wave of intelligent, decentralized systems.

Mysten Labs Chief Cryptography Officer Kostas Chalkias delivered a standout session on emerging technologies within Sui, sharing a broad vision for what’s possible as new tools come online. He highlighted examples like how zk tunnels could enable private video calls directly on Sui, and how LoRa-based infrastructure could pave the way for Internet-less communication, illustrating the kinds of breakthroughs that could redefine interactions with a decentralized coordination layer at its foundation.

Real Vision Group CEO and Sui adviser Raoul Pal helped close the event with a wide-lens look at the macro view of crypto’s future, followed by Adeniyi’s final keynote on how the next evolution of the Internet requires not just decentralized apps, but a decentralized coordination layer. With the Sui stack coming into full view, developers have what they need to create the next generation of experiences on a decentralized platform.
