Shaping The Way Money Moves Across Continents With Sui and Paga

The industry talks a lot about what stablecoins at scale will look like in the future. Today, Sui announced what that scale looks like today, with stablecoins wired directly into one of the largest payment networks in Africa, using Sui as the blockchain that underlies it all.

Paga Group, Africa's leading payments infrastructure company, is integrating the Sui Dollar (USDsui) across its enterprise API suite as well as the Paga consumer app. This gives Paga’s entire customer base access to a stable, dollar-denominated payment layer that moves money without conversion loss, and without correspondent banking intermediaries.

Paga processed over $11B in payments and 169M transactions in 2025 across its infrastructure, consumer app, and merchant platform. Based in Lagos, Nigeria, Paga Group has been around since 2009 and is one of Africa’s pioneering fintech companies.

The Sui Dollar (USDsui) is the native digital dollar of the Sui blockchain, launched in March. It maintains a 1:1 peg to the U.S. dollar and is backed by U.S. Treasury-grade liquid assets.

This is a major benefit to African users, because businesses and individuals can now transact in a dollar-denominated layer without going through correspondent banks, without FX leakage, and without waiting days for settlement. This helps fix key structural issues that affect Africa’s financial system, including wealth erosion, broken cross-border payment rails, exclusion from global commerce, and limits to financial mobility.

Stablecoins and Sui are ideal for filling all kinds of gaps. Sui was designed for high throughput and sub-second finality, with an architecture that can support both user-driven and programmatic transactions at scale. That’s what allows a network like Paga, already operating at national and cross-border volume, to plug in seamlessly, without redesigning how it works.

The scope here goes beyond payments.

Paga is also rolling out access to reward-bearing products backed by real-world assets, with Sui as the settlement layer. Developers building on Paga Engine, the payments infrastructure used by over 300+ businesses, including Meta and Qatar Airways, will have direct access to stablecoin-native infrastructure. The distribution is already in place.

Paga has spent 17 years building trust, and it reaches across the continent. The companies that win don't just build the best product; they build the layer everything else depends on. Now we’re doing it together, at internet scale.
