Sui Opens SuiHub Athens as Global Adoption Surges

Greece’s unique mix of talent, geographical access, and institutional engagement makes it a strategic location for Sui’s physical global expansion. The country’s universities are renowned for producing exceptional engineering talent, particularly in data science, software engineering, and artificial intelligence, two fields that are essential for Sui’s ecosystem. Over the past few years, the broader tech ecosystem in Athens has matured, with more and more startups and innovative projects like Sui establishing a presence in the region, creating high-paying jobs, and attracting top local talent.
Sui began its work in Greece by launching a “Blockchain and Business Innovation” course, an immersive technology program for Greek high school students. Most recently, Athens Exchange Group (ATHEX), Greece’s national stock exchange, announced the completion of the technical design and business requirements for upgrading ATHEX’s Electronic Book Building (EBB) platform, which leverages Sui. This partnership marked the first such collaboration between a national exchange and a Layer 1 blockchain. And Sui’s ties with Greece run deep. Two of its original creators, Mysten Labs Co-Founders Kostas Chalkias and George Danezis, are of Greek nationality, while over 85% of Sui’s Global Solutions Engineering team is now based in Greece, where they already contribute to 40 projects across the network’s expanding global ecosystem.
“We believe innovation thrives when talent is empowered with the right tools and support and is given in-person opportunities to engage, learn, and share ideas,” said Christian Thompson, Sui Foundation Managing Director. “We are excited about the global response Sui has received and look forward to supporting and engaging with the vibrant community and talented developer ecosystem Athens has to offer.”
Located in a beautifully restored neoclassical building, SuiHub Athens blends Greece’s cultural heritage with its rising presence in the digital economy, bringing tangible benefits to Greece’s tech and innovation ecosystems. With a space designed to attract new talent, support high-growth startups, and serve as a meeting point for the region’s brightest minds, the hub will boost the local startup scene, drive investment into the city center, and offer pathways for talented Greeks to build globally relevant solutions.
The new community-led hub will serve as a creative space built for learning, sharing, and building, supporting developers and users by connecting them to Sui’s global infrastructure, providing hands-on learning, facilitating cross-sector collaboration, and driving grassroots engagement.
Developers will enjoy near-constant support across all time zones, access to engineering, advisory services, help with community-building, and more. The Athens hub will organize workshops, developer office hours, and small-scale meetups to help European builders leverage Sui’s unique features, including its object-centric architecture, the Move programming language, and the recently launched decentralized storage platform, Walrus.
In the months ahead, SuiHub Athens will host a series of events, serving as a venue for deeper collaboration with academic institutions, developer communities, and ecosystem partners across Europe.
Stay tuned for upcoming events and opportunities at SuiHub Athens!
